Don’t let the streak get you down
The Cubs losing streak has been something that I’ve wanted to write about for awhile. Just thinking about it gets me so upset and angry, my post turns into a long rant.
But, not the upset and angry, that I assume you’re assuming. The Cubs losing streak has brought the worst out of most of the media, and a lot of fans. This is what upsets me. Why should a losing streak like this, despite the team’s pretty secure spot in the playoffs, make you freak out and act like the riled up Cub fans that everyone portrays us to be.
According to Baseball Prospectus, where they simulate the rest of the season, a million times, the Cubs make the playoffs 99% of the time. I’m not a math major, but that’s pretty good. And, I think has the rest of the Cubs starting lineup is alive they’re going to have a shot at making Prospectus’ prediction come true.
This losing streak and some fluky games, like Cedeno’s error on Sunday that helped blow the lead, has people talking about another catastrophic Cubs collapse. Well, stop. The Cubs are fine and there’s no need to perpetuate stereotypes when the Cubs have a four-game lead, not only in the Central, but the National League.
This losing streak has put a light on some of the Cubs’ problems, and maybe that’s why people are freaking out. But, hasn’t this team earned the benefit of the doubt based on the way they’ve played the entire year.
So, relax, enjoy the rest of the regular season. Get ready for the Dodgers.
