Top 5 Free Agents Available for the Bulls

Published by Erick Ward at 8:30 pm under Chicago Bulls, NBA Edit This

These aren’t the five best free agents available (although the list got a little bit shorter now that Baron Davis has decided to sign with the Clippers), but these are five of the best guys for the Bulls. All of them would fill one need or another the Bulls currently have, and would not cost much more than the mid-level exception. Which is all the Bulls would have, if they decided to sign Ben Gordon and Luol Deng.

1. Kurt Thomas

Thomas is a slightly undersized (6-9) center, but he is the best trusty veteran down low that the Bulls could bring in without a sign-and-trade.

2. Mickael Pietrus

Pietrus is the rich man’s Thabo Sefolosha. He’s a great athlete, and one of the few decent defenders on the Warriors. He would be a tremendous upgrade over Sefolosha on offense and would give the Bulls another shooter, if they are able to trade Gordon or Kirk Hinrich.

3. DeSagana Diop

A good defense center that won’t score, and isn’t a great rebounder, despite being 7-0 tall. Still, he’s one of the few cheaper centers available, and would fill a hole.

4. Carlos Arroyo

If the Bulls decided to part ways with Chris Duhon. Here is another capable of being the backup, preferably second backup, point guard.

5. James Jones

A 6-8 power forward who can shoot threes (44% last season) would be a nice change of pace from some of the more athletic, less skilled guys the Bulls have now.
