Ryan Howard strikes out twice, still he’s pretty good
Yes, Ryan Howard did strike out twice last night against the Red Sox, but the other three times he was at the plate, he homered twice and tripled. Even more scary, both of his home runs were to left field, and when he is doing that on a consistent basis he wins MVPs. In 2006, 27 of his 56 home runs were to the opposite field.
In the eye’s of a Cubs fan, when Howard is swinging like he is, the Phillies have the best line up in baseball. They don’t have the guys at the bottom of the order, like Jim Edmonds (who’s hitting .309 with 2 home runs and 14 RBI since signing with the Cubs) or Mark DeRosa, but their top of the order can’t be topped.
I wouldn’t be too excited to see Jason Marquis face Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, and Burrell late in the season with something on the line.
